Here is a note from Rob and Matt Haught (President and Vice-President respectively, of Sym-Tac Consulting) about the selection of the components of this bespoke build:

[This shotgun represents] what we believe to be the best fighting pump gun on the market today: The Vang Comp / Symtac Consulting Signature 870. Our decades of experience in law enforcement, competition, and training have informed every choice of component of this configuration.

It starts with the venerable Remington 870 shotgun, a combat-proven design that has stood the test of time for generations. The biggest fault of most shotguns is excessive length of pull, so this gun sports the excellent Magpul SGA stock, allowing the end user to customize stock length, comb height, and sling mounting options to their preference. To facilitate even more mounting options, we specified the GG&G rear QD sling mount for those who prefer that over mounting to the stock, and Vang Comp had them create a QD socket for the magazine tube extension.  Speaking of slings, we’ve chosen to include the Ferro Slingster quick-adjust 2-point for its versatility and light weight. The Magpul MOE forend gives an array of MLOK mounting slots for adding the light of your choice. You’ll also find the tiny factory crossbolt safety replaced with an enlarged Vang Comp big dome model for easy disengagement under stress.

Ammunition management is a contentious topic when it comes to shotguns. While the temptation is strong to add as much capacity as possible, we have long advocated simply adding a 1-round extension to the typical 4-round magazine tube in order to provide room for a select slug drill while minimizing excess weight out at the muzzle end, and thus preserve the balance of the gun for better handling. Vang Comp has been making top-notch magazine tube extensions for years, and here they’ve upgraded it with an integral QD socket. Remington’s plastic magazine follower has been replaced by the excellent stainless steel Vang model, reducing friction and enhancing feed reliability. No serious social scattergun is complete without a sidesaddle, and ours includes both a 6-round and a 3-round Vang Comp DSAC card, which we feel is the best in the class for its materials and build quality. Together these give you what we believe to be the best balance between capacity and weight.

Contrary to myth, the shotgun requires precision aiming, and a bead sight just doesn’t cut it in today’s world. We specced out Wilson Combat’s Trak-Lock II ghost ring sights, specially modified with the top half of the rear aperture machined away to create a wide U-notch that we call “The Friendly Ghost” and a fiber-optic insert in the front sight so it stands out clearly. This gives you what we feel to be the best balance of speed and precision for the fighting shotgun. And for those of you who have stepped fully into the 21st Century, the receiver is drilled and tapped so you can affix an optic mount.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Vang Comp gun without their signature barrel modifications. By recontouring the interior to reduce pellet deformation, Vang Comp modified barrels consistently reduce pattern size, mitigate felt recoil impulse, and reduce muzzle flip, allowing you to hit your targets faster and farther out than with an unmodified barrel. The expert smiths at Vang Comp also go through each shotgun’s internals to make sure everything is within spec and working as intended, lapping in the metal-on-metal surfaces, de-horning and polishing the loading and ejection ports to you get a gun with the reliability you demand from a serious defensive tool. Finally, each gun is refinished with Cerakote in either black, olive drab, or flat dark earth.

We are proud to have the opportunity to work with our friends at Vang Comp to bring this shotgun to you. We know it will serve you well, and provide you with many years of enjoyment and satisfaction. We also heartily encourage you to go out and get good training from reputable instructors, whether that’s us or one of the other outstanding shotgun trainers in the industry.

There you have it, a turn-key package for a serious social shotgun.
