Optics, Short Shells, Vang Comp, Magpul – the Vang Comp Red Dot Shotgun 590S has it all.
The Vang Comp Red Dot Shotgun (RDS) is our first production shotgun that comes equipped with a Red Dot Optic installed.
Just as red dot sights enhance accuracy and speed for long guns and handguns, they can also provide significant benefits for shotguns, especially in low-light and distance situations, but also in close-quarters applications.
We start this build with Mossberg’s 590 “S” shotgun which is renowned for its standout reliable feeding of short shells (1.75″). This shotgun is equipped with the VCS +1 Magazine Extension to give you a flush aesthetic that so many of our clients desire. The +1 Extension also adds multiple different sling mounting capabilities via the Vang Comp Sling Interface. Additionally, the VCS +1 brings the short shell capacity of this firearm to 10+1. You read that right- 10+1 capacity with short shells.
This particular 590″S” comes milled for “K-footprint” optics which also works with Shield RMSc-pattern optics. So, should you choose to upgrade in the future, you could swap out this installed Holosun 407K for an enclosed emitter option like the Holosun EPS, or maybe a future digital thermal unit. If it fits K Footprint, you can drop it into your shotgun.
Since the receiver is milled for this and the optic is not installed on top of the receiver, but rather nested inside of the receiver, the optic sits very close to the bore axis so you can actually see your bead sight through the window of the optic allowing a unique, but functional form of backup sight co-witness.
For the uninitiated, the MAGPUL SGA buttstock is widely regarded as the best thing to happen to shotguns since the Vang Comp barrel modification.
The configurable length of pull combined with the optional cheek risers and a plethora of sling mount options make this a feature-packed stock.
The MAGPUL SGA stock just so happens to offer a very comfortable wrist position at the low- and high-ready, not to mention while shooting.
On the other human interface surface, we have installed the MAGPUL MOE Forend.
This lightweight but durable forend has industry-standard MLOK slots at the 3,6, and 9-o’clock positions to allow preferential positioning of your chosen accessories.
Lights, Picatinny rails, Hand stops, Grip panels, Switches, even Flamethrowers – if it has an MLOK attachment, it will mount to the MAGPUL MOE forend.
This shotgun also comes with a Magpul Type-1 QD Cup installed in the left side of the buttstock and a Magpul Forward Sling attachment at the muzzle which is reversible for Push Button or Paraclip on a chosen side.
The loading port work on this shotgun is just the cherry on top. We do this as a practical upgrade that you can appreciate every time you load a shell into the tube without feeling like you are “jamming your thumb into a box of razors.” -Uncle Clint Smith (Thunder Ranch).
Worked by hand, and valued at $200 in skilled labor, you really need to lay hands on this shotgun to appreciate the sanded, lapped, and polished touch points. It’s like a de-horned 1911, it just feels right.
Photos do not do this justice, but the best comparison is to hold the VC-RDS next to any other box-stock Mossberg, the difference is night and day.
Out of the box, this firearm will do everything you need a shotgun to do.
Our Vang Comp System barrel modification will reduce the felt recoil and tighten the shot/slug patterns while reducing muzzle rise and muzzle flash.
Our Big Speed Safety is made from billet aluminum and is oversized for easier switching.
Our Stainless Steel Magazine Follower is corrosion resistant, low-drag, and provides a tactile indication of “a round” or “no rounds” left in the magazine.
Our trained and experienced technicians strip each shotgun down to the main components and visually inspect everything to be sure these guns are ready to serve you.
After we do our barrel work and install our safety and follower, the shotgun is reassembled, we run two tubes worth of dummy rounds through the magazine, and the action is tested again to be doubly sure this shotgun is good to go.
So grab this shotgun and call it a day.
Whether it’s your 1st shotgun or your 10th, there’s room for The Vang Comp Red Dot Shotgun – 590S in everyone’s safe.
